Congrats, Scott!
Scott’s piece was recently published by Mediastorm. Chad, Brian and the other rockstars all did an amazing job. Wes Pope added really touching and humorous pieces of video - especially the Cagwins driving on Cagwin drive.
It is so wonderful to see work like Scott’s getting attention. It’s nuanced and does not judge. So often we see this specific theme covered in a good guy - bad guy way. The farm is the good guy - the development is the bad guy. Scott doesn’t condescend to his viewers and respects the subjects in the utmost.
In my opinion, in “Common Ground,” Scott took the side of the developers and those who live in the development in his piece. Especially by including the comment about the woman who shops at Walmart. I thought there was too much emphasis on the idea that “life on a farm and life in a development are the same,” and not enough showing the differences of what farms contribute to society and what life on that farm was really like. It was a bit constructed.
