Windy morning in Florence

without comments

After the football game I made a mad dash out of Eugene and drove to Florence. Thanks to Sol Neelman for talking me through the streets of Eugene, around all the football traffic, and getting me headed west. It was one of the worst drives of my life. Snow on a two lane curvy highway with a bunch of yahoos who want to drive about 90 mph. I realize I sound like a 80 year-old man shaking his cane at the neighbor kids.

My plan was to work on a feature story in Florence on Sunday, but it never happened because the storm came in faster and harder than predicted. So Sunday I started covering wind in Florence. It was gusting at about 80 mph on the coast. I drove up to the Sea Lion Caves because it was one of the few places that was open. The waves were crashing into the caves pretty hard, even the “caveman” said he had not seen it like this for as long as he could remember.

In the parking lot of the caves, people would come and go, fighting the wind.
