tough night in Tuscon
Spent a rough night in Tucson Thursday. Bruce Ely and I were there to cover the University of Oregon play Arizona on national television. Without boring you with the details of the game, I’ll just say it went bad for the Ducks.
Bruce was there to make pictures of the game. I was there to photograph ‘the other stuff’ and do some multimedia. I’m used to juggling both – but not at such a big event with such tight deadlines. I found myself torn in two directions as the game progressed. The game wasn’t going as predicted and I had to throw my pregame plan out the window. Ultimately, I think that both the photography and multimedia suffered in quality because of the need to do both.
But, I do think something pretty cool came of it. The video and the stills were made almost simultaneously and they both show many of the same people and places. So the question is, which works better and how does that influence my future choices?

Nice job on both. But my ears hurt from the ducks

The video is definitely more comprehensive and more entertaining but the still photographs take me some place different. The photos makes me ponder and interpret and reflect while the video doesn’t allow me that option. It thinks for me. I like having both although it’s asking too much to have one person do both.
